Cboe Global Markets has relaunched binary options contracts on the S&P 500 index, returning to a product category the exchange had not offered for more than a decade, according to Bloomberg Markets. The relaunch positions Cboe to compete directly with prediction market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket, which have expanded binary options trading to a broader retail audience in recent years.

The binary options contracts are written on the S&P 500 index (SPX), the benchmark US large-cap equity index that underlies Cboe's existing options franchise. Cboe Global Markets (CBOE), the exchange operator itself, is directly involved as the listing and clearing venue for the relaunched product, making it materially connected to the revenue and competitive dynamics of this launch.

Finnhub and CNBC reported on 24 June 2026 that the relaunch is part of a broader move by Cboe into prediction markets products, explicitly linked to momentum the exchange has built through its zero-day options offerings. Cboe described the expansion as targeting growing consumer demand in the prediction markets space, extending its derivatives portfolio beyond conventional listed options.
